The church in Poniky was built in the first quarter of the 14th century. Its fresco decoration with Franciscan motifs comprises two main phases, around 1380 and in 1415. Poniky is home to an evangelical church dating from 1784 with a Tolerance Tower from 1868. The church can be visited free of charge by prior telephone appointment.

Culture

At Ponický dom, a permanent exhibition provides insights into the folklore and cultural history of Poniky. The same building also houses an authentic exhibition about the writer and poet Štefan Žáry. The Poniky parish includes the filial church of Panny Márie Fatimskej from 1945, the chapel of Najsvätejšej Trojice from 1846 and the chapel of sv. Jána Nepomuckého from 1960.

Craft and musical traditions are also part of the local character. The Vodný mlyn Jána Mračka water mill in Poniky is a national cultural monument. Numerous customs have survived to this day; the Poničan folklore ensemble and a children's folklore ensemble present these local traditions. The fujara and six-hole shepherd's flutes have survived as traditional musical instruments in the Poniky area. The fujara is decorated with engravings and burned-in ornaments. The production of household textiles also has a long tradition in Poniky.

Nature

The Ponický Karst lies west of Poniky and covers an area of approximately 4 km². There are karst features in and around Poniky, such as sinkholes and blind valleys. The especially demanding terrain of the NPR Ponická dúbrava National Nature Reserve is home in particular to sessile oak. Poniky is also considered an important mushroom-picking area.

Trails

The Hradisko educational trail is 2.3 kilometres long, moderately difficult and takes approximately 1.5 hours. It is a self-guided circular route accessible to pedestrians year-round and can be walked in both directions. For cycling, the green cycle route 5558 leads from Ponická Huta via Poniky to Šalková.

Events

Cycling events include the “Ponickými kiarmi” mountain race, which takes place in Poniky. It was held for the tenth time on 13 September 2025; for 2026, it is listed as the 11th edition. Poniky also hosts the “Zdola ponickýho mlyna” children's folklore festival. For 13 June 2026, it is documented as the 28th edition.

On every offer page, you can check the exact location, type of accommodation, occupancy, included services, price components, and booking and cancellation conditions before booking. Comparing these fields reveals differences between individual holiday apartments or holiday homes without attributing them to the location itself. The details of the respective offer remain decisive, particularly regarding occupancy and costs. This allows visitors to view the points relevant to them directly side by side, while Poniky's cultural and landscape features stand independently of them.
