Herbal Culture in the Village
The history of the “Babki Zielarki” association is also connected with Blanki. The informal club was founded in 2011 and converted into an association in early 2015. The village community hall is a central venue for local activities; members of “Babki Zielarki” often hold presentations and tastings there. Herbs at the Festival: Food and Homemade Blends
At the ninth edition of the Herb Festival, visitors sampled regional dishes made with herbs. The stalls offered, among other things, traditional nettle soup, pancakes with lentils and nettles, baked goods and herbal syrups. The dishes and tastings were part of the programme for this festival edition.
The hands-on activities at this edition also showcased different ways of engaging with herbs: children made their own tea blends and learned rules for gathering and drying herbs. In workshops, adults prepared herbal salt for food and cosmetics and learned more about the properties of the plants used. While the tea-blending activities focused on gathering and drying, the herbal-salt workshop combined learning about plants with making your own blends. At the eighth edition, visitors could also take part in a workshop on making herbal soaps.
The Red Cycle Route No. 5 Through Blanki
The well-marked recreational route is about 30 kilometres long and forms a loop south of Lidzbark Warmiński. From Lidzbark Warmiński, it runs through Kłębowo, Jarandowo and Kochanówka to Blanki. On the route from Lidzbark Warmiński, Blanki is at kilometre 19.4; the route then continues to Lake Symsar before returning to Lidzbark Warmiński. Blanki is therefore one section of a loop that takes in several places and the lake. Check the current condition of the route before setting out.
