Culture and Landscape

Haczów has a wooden Gothic church from the late 14th century built using log construction. It features rich polychrome decoration, received a Baroque tower in the 17th century and is surrounded by wooden arcades. The church is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage cultural site. It therefore suits an interest in Haczów's cultural heritage.

The historic religious complex in Haczów includes a masonry church in addition to the wooden church. In 1948, church services were moved there; its main altar contains a figure of the Virgin Mary with the body of Jesus.

An exhibition of traditions presents works by folk artists, Haczów embroidery and historical instruments such as hurdy-gurdies, violas da gamba, psalteries and organistrums. Annual workshops give visitors the opportunity to hear the instruments.

In the wider surroundings, the Gmina Haczów lies at the foot of the Lower Beskids and on the Wisłok River. The landscape is described as a mosaic of meadows, fields and forests.

The documented history of Haczów dates back to 1352, when King Casimir III granted the settlement a foundation charter. In 1624, the settlement was destroyed by Tatars, while the wooden church survived.
