Church Art and the Historic City Centre

The present-day brick St. Anne’s Church was built around 1550. It preserves fragments of wall paintings from 1555 depicting the Passion of Christ. The furnishings also include three late Gothic portals. Particularly noteworthy is the portal in the presbytery, whose wrought-iron doors feature latticework. The Chapel of the Holy Cross also contains a 16th-century crucifix from a former rood screen. The wall paintings, portals and crucifix give the church distinct historical and artistic features.

The historic street plan dating from the city’s foundation has also been preserved around the market square, now Plac Piłsudskiego. The town hall adds a later chapter to this history: it was built in 1823 to a design by Hilary Szpilowski, in the Neoclassical style, from plastered brick. A clock was installed on the town hall tower in 1969 to mark the 540th anniversary of the granting of city rights. In the city centre, visitors can therefore distinguish the development of the street plan from individual building and commemorative dates.

Sculptures in the City and Time in the Park

Created in 2018, the Józef Wilkoń Sculpture Trail consists of casts of sculptures and a mural on the wall of Przystanek Muzyki. Sculptures from the trail can be found in the Piaseczno market square, at Zakątek Kultury, on Skwer Kisiela and in the city park. The works are therefore not confined to a single square but are spread across several named locations.
