The church and its history
Two dates are associated with the history of the parish: Bishop Rafał Leszczyński established it on 6 October 1525 and assigned it to the Deanery of Liw at the request of Janusz, Duke of Masovia; another date given is 1473. The church’s construction is a separate matter: in 1530, the second parish priest, Stanisław Szymborski, built the brick church using his own funds. He was also a canon of the Warsaw Chapter. At the time, there was also a hospital for the poor.
The church is dedicated to St John the Baptist and St Stanislaus, Bishop and Martyr. The different years illustrate the distinction between the founding of the parish and the construction of the church: if you are interested in local history, it is worth keeping both dates in mind rather than reading them as a single construction year.
Another architectural feature is the wooden bell tower in Stanisławów. It dates from the 18th century and was renovated in the 20th century; its bell was cast in 1773. A monument in the market square commemorates residents who fell between 1914 and 1920. It was unveiled in 1938. The church, tower and monument offer different points of interest: architectural history, a bell with a precise date, and public commemoration.
Culture in a former inn
The former brick inn now houses the Gminny Ośrodek Kultury, or GOK. The building was destroyed in 1944 and rebuilt between 1958 and 1962, renovated in 1986 and comprehensively refurbished in 2007. Its history thus spans its former use as an inn and its current cultural role.
The GOK organises open-air events, concerts, exhibitions and workshops for children, young people and adults. Its activities cater to different interests, from music and exhibitions to taking part in a workshop. A private museum nearby
The private Muzeum Ziemi Stanisławowskiej is located in Kolonie Stanisławów, near the destination and within the municipality of Stanisławów. Its collection includes two thatched-roof buildings with distinct histories. The house dates from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries and was moved here from Dłużka; historical household items are on display inside.
The second building is a partially reconstructed wooden barn with a thatched roof, dating from the mid-20th century. It was moved from Michałów and houses agricultural tools and machinery. The museum thus presents domestic life and agriculture as separate themes. You must contact the owner in advance to arrange a visit.
