Cycling and Hiking Routes
On its route from Międzychód to Poznań, the Nadwarciański Szlak Rowerowy follows the Warta through Zatom Nowy. The local revitalization plan for 2015–2020 describes the blue western section in the village as running from east to west along Voivodeship Road 198. From the village on the north bank of the Warta, the western section leads towards Międzychód; in the opposite direction, the description lists Sieraków, then Poznań and the Jeziorsko Reservoir.
The same local description lists the red PTTK hiking trail from Sieraków, via the Warta ferry and Kukułka, through Zatom Nowy towards Chojno and Mokrze; its endpoint is marked at 65.1 km. A black connecting trail is 7.1 km long and runs from Chorzępowo via Zatom Nowy and the Warta ferry to Zatom Stary and Ławica. The figures refer to different things: 65.1 km is marked at the endpoint of the hiking route, while 7.1 km is the length of the connecting trail.
According to the local route description from 2015–2020, the “Do Kopalni Wanda” cycling route starts in Zatom Nowy. It heads north through the pine forests of the Puszcza Notecka, along Lake Barlin, to the remains of a lignite mine shaft from the interwar period. The forest, lake and mining history give this route a different focus from the Warta routes.
A ferry across the Warta connects Zatom Nowy and Zatom Stary on Voivodeship Road 195. Check the timetable before setting out on a specific trip.
Lakes and Historic Traces
Lake Piaskowe lies about 2 km northwest of Zatom Nowy. The local description for 2015–2020 gives its area as 14 ha and its depth as around 5.8 m, and describes the bathing conditions as good. About 1 km to the north, in the forests of the Puszcza Notecka, lies Lake Barlin. The same description calls it a large ribbon lake and gives its area as 103 ha, its length as about 3.2 km, its width as 0.7 km and its depth as 3 m. The difference in area is clear: at 103 ha, Lake Barlin is considerably larger than Lake Piaskowe, which covers 14 ha.
The local revitalization plan for 2015–2020 locates restored and enclosed remains of an evangelical cemetery in the eastern part of Zatom Nowy, by Voivodeship Road 198. It associates the cemetery with German settlers who lived in the area before the First World War. The same description also identifies four spreading pines in the village as remnants of the old forest. Thus, the revitalization plan for 2015–2020 describes the cemetery and the four pines as historic traces in the village.
When looking for a holiday apartment in Zatom Nowy, it helps to ask what you want to focus on during your stay: cycling routes and river crossings, nearby lakes or historic traces. If a particular route or lake is central to your plans, include the specific accommodation address in your comparison.
