The mill and workshop represent different aspects of the local heritage: windmill technology on the one hand, and metalworking and the memory of several crafts on the other. Hiking trails and viewpoints
The National Blue Trail and the Red Trail pass through Tés. A wooden lookout tower stands north of the built-up area, along the National Blue Trail. Another viewpoint is Lácz, also called Láczi-dűlő: it lies at the end of Hunyadi János utca and offers a panorama of wooded, hilly and sloping terrain. Boat trips are available at Tapolcai-tavasbarlang, which also has the guided exhibition “Csodálatos karszt” (“Wonderful Karst”). The cave is part of a cave system beneath the town, of which 14.6 kilometres have been explored so far.
Hegyestű is a 337-metre-high mountain between Zánka and Monoszló. Its inner face exposes a basalt volcano that was active about eight million years ago. At the western edge of the quarry site, visitors can use a panorama board to identify the surrounding hills. Hegyestű also has a rock garden featuring characteristic rock types of Transdanubia. This geological focus is quite different from the mills and craft traditions that define Tés.
In Herend, the museum and visitor centre are dedicated to the porcelain manufactory. The Porcelain Museum presents a permanent exhibition and changing exhibitions on the manufactory’s history. The visitor centre focuses on production, technology and the traditions of applied arts. In workshops, visitors can handle porcelain clay and a brush for painting. Sümeg Castle offers a different perspective on history: it is a relatively well-preserved medieval fortress on a bare hill rising above the surrounding area. Extensive renovation work was completed in 2022, and an interactive exhibition opened there in spring 2023.
Science and discovery are also represented in the wider destination: the Pannon Csillagda in Bakonybél features an interactive exhibition on space exploration and astronomy. The Dinosaur Park at Veszprém Zoo has lifelike models of dinosaurs that lived millions of years ago; children can take part in a real archaeological excavation there.
