Along the Kislőd–Öreg-hegyi Adventure Trail

The Kislőd–Öreg-hegyi Adventure Trail is 19 kilometres long, rated easy, and accessible only on foot. Along the route are the cultural centre, Vashámor, the adventure park, a nature trail, the Blue Hiking Route, and an open-pit mine. The trail returns to the village via the adventure park. The sequence of stops makes the route more than a simple connection: it brings different points of interest together in a single hike.

If you include this route in your holiday plans, check local conditions before setting out. The stated length and easy rating describe the route; it can only be travelled on foot. This is a clear difference from a visit to the local adventure park, which can also be reached by bus.

Visiting the park and getting to the picnic area

Sobri Jóska Élménypark is on the outskirts of Kislőd. It is about a 20-minute walk from Kislőd railway station; there is also a local bus connection. The park offers, among other things, a zip line, a bobsled track, a rope course, a go-kart track, a water obstacle course, and a playground. In Tapolca, boat trips are available in the Tapolcai-tavasbarlang, along with the guided “Csodálatos karszt” (“Wonderful Karst”) exhibition. The cave is part of a cave system beneath the town that has so far been explored to a length of 14.6 kilometres. This combines a boat trip with a glimpse of the karst landscape.

Hegyestű, the 337-metre-high mountain between Zánka and Monoszló, offers a different geological perspective. There, the inner side of a basalt volcano that was active about 8 million years ago reveals the geological history. At the viewpoint on the western edge of the quarry, a panorama board helps identify the surrounding hills; a rock garden displays characteristic rock types of Transdanubia. These geological insights differ from the underground impressions of the cave in Tapolca.

Herend and Veszprém Zoo add very different cultural attractions. The Herend Porcelain Museum has a permanent exhibition and changing exhibitions about the history of the manufactory. In workshops at the mini-manufactory, visitors can handle porcelain clay and a brush for painting; the visitor centre also explains porcelain production, its techniques, and the traditions of applied art. At Veszprém Zoo, the Dinosaur Park features lifelike models of dinosaurs that lived millions of years ago. Children can take part in a real archaeological excavation there. Thus, the wider destination offers landscape, craftsmanship, and a hands-on activity for children as distinct interests.
