The Reimann Mining History Miniverse is located next to the listed Dorog lower mine, the former Reimann lower mine. As an interactive exhibition space, it is dedicated to the mining history of the Dorog Basin. The exhibition can be explored independently or as part of a guided tour. Using VR headsets and 360-degree footage recorded at real locations, visitors gain insights into various mining methods and the challenges of underground work.
Culture
The Dorogi Szent József Church is also one of the city’s defining cultural sites. Construction of the present-day church began in 1767, and it was consecrated in 1775. It is a Baroque church of historic-monument character. The Dorogi József Attila Cultural Centre provides space for concerts, exhibitions and fairs. It also hosts the Európa napi rendezvények, which have become a tradition, on the first weekend of May, as well as Miners’ Day on the first weekend of September.
Things to Do
The Országos Kéktúra passes through Dorog and reaches the Aknatorony lookout tower. The Dorogi séta is a walking challenge that explores protected architectural heritage and the history of Dorog. It starts and ends at the Reimann Mining History Miniverse.
The Aknatorony was built in 1981 as a headframe commemorating Dorog’s mining past. The Dorogi József Attila Cultural Centre also has a four-lane bowling alley. Bowling enthusiasts can use it during available time slots by prior registration and confirmation.
Getting There and Orientation
Dorog railway station is located directly on Otthon tér and lies on the Budapest-Nyugati–Esztergom railway line. The Dorogi József Attila Cultural Centre can be reached via Main Road 10, as well as from the centre of Dorog via Mária utca and Köztársaság utca.
At the Reimann Mining History Miniverse, there is an accessible parking space opposite the main entrance on the Budapest-facing side of Esztergomi út. From the car park, visitors can reach the reception and exhibition area via a marked pedestrian crossing and then by lift.
