Bélmegyeri Fáspuszta is a 644-hectare part of the national park; 82 hectares of it are under strict protection. Fáspuszta is home to one of the last remaining intact salt-affected forests in Hungary. Its saline pasture is dotted with individual pedunculate oaks several centuries old and old wild pear trees. It is also home to one of the world’s strongest known populations of the endangered butterfly species Gortyna borelii (“great burnet moth”).
Nature
The central, strictly protected part of Bélmegyeri Fáspuszta is not accessible because of its small size and vulnerability. On the road from Vésztő to Bélmegyer stands the locally protected white willow “Öreg hölgy”, also known as “Idős Fehér Hölgy”. It is considered the oldest white willow in Békés County.

Culture
The Wenckheim hunting lodge in Fáspuszta was built by Béla Wenckheim between 1855 and 1862 according to plans by Ybl Miklós. Wenckheim Castle is closed to visitors and can only be viewed from outside, beyond the fence. Around the castle, remnants of the former English landscape garden and trees more than 100 years old have been preserved.
Kárászi Hunting Lodge is a Romantic-Eclectic hunting lodge built on the outskirts of Bélmegyer in the 1860s. It has a five-hectare park, one hectare of which is protected. A monument in Fáspuszta commemorates the soldiers from the surrounding farmsteads who fell in the First World War.
Activities
The 100-kilometre road cycling route of the Körös-100 endurance tour passes through Bélmegyer. From mid-November to the end of February, the Bélmegyeri Hunting Lodge offers pheasant hunts as well as hunting opportunities for roe deer, red deer, mouflon and partridge.

The Disznótoros programme at the Bélmegyeri Hunting Lodge gives guests the opportunity to make sausages and bake bread themselves.

Bélmegyer can be reached by road from Békés, Mezőberény or Vésztő.
