Neuberend Between Nature and History

Neuberend was established in the mid-18th century when 21 settler plots on the Berender Heide were brought together, forming the village of Neuberend. On October 1, 1764, Neuberend was recorded in full with 105 inhabitants. The grave of the soldier Lauritz Chr. Jensen Smaagard is located in a private garden at Klosterreihe 77. It is designated as a protected monument and can be visited by arrangement with the neighboring residents.

Nature and Trails

Numerous walking trails lead to the nearby Königsdamm meadows and into the surrounding forests, providing opportunities for nature walks in and around Neuberend. Several lakes near Neuberend invite visitors to go swimming. The StOÜbPl Neuberend / Langsee area covers approximately 337 hectares, including 44.6 hectares of water.

Leisure and Activities

A well-developed network of cycle paths connects Neuberend with the surrounding villages and makes it possible to explore them by bicycle. The village also has a recreational area with a barbecue site and play equipment. Horse riding is available in Neuberend. Cultural events are coordinated by the Ortskulturring.

Schleswig and Further Connections

In Schleswig, the Gottorf Castle Museum Island features exhibitions on archaeology as well as art and cultural history in buildings surrounding the castle. The reconstructed Gottorf Globe and the Baroque garden are also among the attractions. The castle itself is currently closed for renovation work. Kiel, Flensburg, and Hamburg can be reached from Neuberend via the A7 or by bus and train.
