Alt Krenzlin: Village History, Culture and Nature Views

Alt Krenzlin reveals its character through specific discoveries: the history of a peat glassworks, a historic Low German hall house that serves as a cultural venue, and a resting place with views of the canal and biotope. There are also village festivals and places whose layout recalls that of circular villages. Traces of the peat glassworks and old village layouts

Krenzliner Hütte grew out of a peat glassworks established on the Klein Kramser peat bog in 1743. The glassworks was abandoned in 1779. Only the place name and the field name Glasschmelze remain. This history connects the place names with the bog’s former use and gives a stay a distinctive historical dimension.

The village layouts also tell different stories about the places. Klein Krams still has the layout of a classic circular village. Loosen, the oldest and highest-lying place in the municipality of Alt Krenzlin, is at 54 m above sea level and was originally also laid out as a circular village. Culture in the historic Low German hall house

The kramserei is a cultural venue in a historic Low German hall house. The building has a hall and a stage, as well as a stable and a carriage shed. Its offerings include a sound workshop, theatre, live radio plays and cinema. There is also a garden café, a farm shop, a stallBistro, a flea-market barn and market days. Rooms for seminars and workshops add to the possibilities the building offers.

The different areas make the kramserei a destination for a range of interests: you can enjoy theatre or radio plays, visit a market day, or take a look at the workshop and rooms for workshops. The historic building and its present-day cultural offerings stand side by side—a distinctive contrast with the history of the former glassworks and the circular village layouts.

Canal views and paths in Klein Krams Ausbau

A weather shelter in Klein Krams Ausbau offers direct views of the Ludwigslust Canal and the biotope around the fish ladder. The small shelter is a possible stopping point for walkers and cyclists from the surrounding villages and municipalities, as well as for guests staying on farms. A designated bridleway also passes the shelter in Klein Krams Ausbau. It runs from the stud farm in Neustadt Dosse to Redefin and passes directly by the shelter. This is separate from the cycle path between Göhlen and Leussow, which gives cyclists the option of making a detour to Klein Krams Ausbau. This way, specific route connections are mentioned for different interests without confusing the bridleway with the cycling connection.

Village festivals and activities with children

Since 1982, a village festival for all the districts of the municipality has traditionally been held in the potato barn of Agrarproduktion Alt Krenzlin e.G. in Krenzliner Hütte. Another example of local festivities is the Alt Krenzlin municipality’s Oktoberfest: on 13 September 2025, it was held for the third year in a row at the village community centre in Loosen. On 30 April 2026, a decorated maypole was once again traditionally put up in Alt Krenzlin, as in the previous year.

The villages and municipalities of Alt Krenzlin, Glaisin, Göhlen and Leussow organise a Children’s Day party every year. The 2026 Children’s Day party in Klein Krams included archery and activities with the fire brigade. These examples offer a glimpse into different ways of celebrating together; the Oktoberfest and the maypole-raising are specific past dates, not information about upcoming event days.

Rest area with play equipment

In the Alt Krenzlin district, there is a rest and seating area by the bus turning loop, inaugurated in March 2024. There is play equipment there, and one section is fenced off for safety reasons. A bench and three newly planted trees complete the area, which invites visitors, cyclists and hikers to stop and rest.
