Holidays in Morocco: Shakira and Kanye West at Mawazine

From 20 to 28 May 2011 in Morocco starts Mawazine Festival, one of the largest and most representative live music shows in North Africa. The festival takes place in the capital of Morocco - the city of Rabat.

This year at Mawazine festival gathered a wide company of world stars. Among those, who will perform on the Mawazine stage are Shakira, Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens), Joe Cocker, Lionel Richie, Quincy Jones, Earth, Wind and Fire and Kanye West. All of them will perform on the OLM Souissi.

Nelly Furtado was also supposed to take part in the festival. However, in late March it became known that the singer would not be able to participate in the festival.

Anyway, all the headliners of the festival will perform on the main stage of Mawazine - OLM Souissi.

Another stage of the festival in Morocco will become Bouregreg. At this stage will perform musicians from different areas of African musical culture. Senegal, Mali, Djibouti, Jamaica - all of these countries, which are known for their contribution to the global culture of African music, will be presented on the Bouregreg stage by a number of leading musicians: Youssou N'dour, Salif Keita, Tiken Jah Fakoly, Femi Tuki, Ernest Ranglin, Staff Benda Bilili.

Mawazine is a performance, where visitors can see the best representatives of the style, which is now accepted as World or ethnic. This is a kind of "Arab Woodstock", where meet representatives of dozens different cultures. In total, within one week of the festival in the capital of Morocco will be shown more than 1500 performances, organized exhibitions and street performances.

And the festival is not limited only by stages. Participants of Mawazine will also present their shows on the streets of the capital of Morocco. It will be organized by 9 street theater troupes from Serbia, Turkey, Bolivia, Canada and other countries. The most striking street event of a week of musical madness in Morocco promises to be the «Banda del Surdo» show, an ensemble of drummers and dancers that convey the rhythm to each other.
