Canaries in July: festival on Fuerteventura beaches

On July 6 Fuerteventura, one of the most popular Spanish resort islands, which is part of the Canary Islands archipelago, will host music festival Fuerteventura en Musica - FEM 2012. It is, perhaps, the most significant cultural event of the summer season on the Canary Islands, which annually attracts thousands of tourists and musicians from around the world.

Fuerteventura en Musica will take place in the town of El Cotillo in the La Oliva municipal area. Musical marathon will last at the local beach of La Concha (Playa de La Concha) during the two days. Non-stop concert on the open stage will include performances of the top musicians from Spain, Norway, USA and Brazil, as well as other European and African countries. Among the alleged participants of FEM 2012 are such well-known musicians as: Alpha Blondy (Ivory Coast), Café Tacuba (Mexico), Carlinhos Brown and Edd Motta (Brazil), Fanfare Ciocarlia (Romania) and many others. Admission to all concerts is free. According to the initiative of the Fuerteventura administration, outdoor cafes and a tent town will operate on the beach.

Located in the north of the island town of El Cotilla attracts tourists with its distinctive image of an ancient fishing village. It seems that time has stopped here several centuries ago. Even located on the shores of the Gulf Torre del Tostón war tower built in the eighteenth century looks like right now it will be able to reflect the pirate attack.

There is another reason why the island of Fuerteventura and El Cotilla is very popular among the tourists – there are ideal conditions for windsurfing. Fuerteventura name even translates as "Big Wind", while El Cotilla twice hosted world championships in this kind of sport.
