More and more Russians now choose holidays in Austria. Such data was provided by the Austrian Tourist Marketing Agency published on austrianindependent.com. For 11 months of 2011 Austria was visited by more than 360 thousand tourists from Russia. It is by 31% higher than for the same period last year. So, Russian tourist boom in Austria is a real fact.

According to the agency’s statistical report, about half of tourists, who visited Austria, stayed in 4-5* hotels.

Today Austria is considered to be one of the most popular winter recreation areas among the Russians. Mayrhofen, Kitzbühel resorts are known today as one of the most popular in Russia.

In addition to the Austrian ski resorts one of the most popular tourist destinations is the capital Vienna. Vienna hotels and apartments in the past year experienced increase in demand among the Russians by more than one-third compared with 2010. Thus, Russians became the leading group of visitors in Vienna being ahead of such fans of the famous city as Spanish and Swiss.

It should be noted that in recent months an atypical preponderance of spa hotels bookings was registered in Austria before the traditional for this season booking of ski resort cottages. In fact, the high season of reservations in Austria this year started with a delay of a month or two because of the prolonged absence of snow on the top Alpine resorts of the country. However, recent reports on the status of snow cover on the resort slopes in Tyrol and Salzburg stimulated change in balance for the ski resorts.

Anyway, ski holidays in Austria continue to be the main tourist direction. The priority of the winter holidays is backed by the investments to ski resorts of Austria during the last 10 years. The total amount of financial investments in the development of alpine infrastructure for this period is amounted to over 5 billion Euros.
