Carnival in Düsseldorf

Spring is a time of carnivals. Before the Lent people want to get enough fun. This year, in early March will be held several major carnival events of the world.

Carnival in Rio, 5-8 March 2011

The famous Carnival in Rio - the king of carnivals - this year was overshadowed by a tragic accident. A fire at a warehouse, where was stored props for the celebratory procession, destroyed several mobile scenes and thousands of costumes. As a result, several teams could not take part in this procession. Nevertheless, despite such a sad event, for the Rio Carnival 2011 the Brazilian authorities expect to receive by 17% more tourists than in 2010. Given the high demand, sharply increased the prices of hotels in Rio de Janeiro - almost three-fold.

Mardi Gras Carnival, New Orleans. March 8, 2011

This year one of the biggest carnivals of the world, Mardi Gras in New Orleans, coincided with the celebration of the International Women's Day. It is suspected that in Louisiana the second event is not known. Nevertheless, for visitors from Russia, who will attend the carnival, it will be an additional cause for joy. In 2011 Mardi Gras is held on one of the most latest dates. However, the expectation of Mardi Gras is traditionally compensated by a noisy procession with famous brass bands and teams, where will perform Excaliber, Push-Mow, Eve, Rhea, Endymion, and Proteus. In addition to the traditional Mardi Gras in the current carnival procession will pass a special march "Mardi Gras for pets".

Carnival in Venice, February 22 - March 8, 2011


The largest carnival in Europe this year dedicated to the date of the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy. Therefore, traditional medieval costumes and masks at the current Venice carnival will be replaced by the 19th century costumes. In addition, the main theme of the Carnival in Venice 2011 is female beauty. The costumes are to emphasize it. In a mandatory program of the Carnival are boat races on the Grand Canal in Venice. Among the innovations of the current Carnival in Venice is a wine fountain, which was installed on St. Mark's Square near the stage, where is played the famous Commedia Dell'Arte. By the way, the scene this time is designed by Angelo Lodi - the author of sets for the famous opera house La Scala.

Apokris, Greece, February 13 - March 6, 2011


Apokris Carnival in Greece includes processions that pass through the streets of many Greek cities. Especially brightly Apokrisa is celebrated on Crete. Its own carnival has the island of Zakynthos. But the main venue of the carnival is the city of Patras, the third largest city in Greece. Here is held the famous Patrino karnavali. Every Saturday and Sunday through the streets of Patras march merry masquerade parades and pass the famous carnival carts with giant puppets. This year, the most vivid demonstrations in Patras are expected on March 5-6.

In total in early March Carnivals will be held in more than 20 cities around the globe. Among them are Carnival in Strasbourg, Carnival in Düsseldorf, Goa Carnival, Carnival de Barranquilla in Colombia, Carnival Tegize on the Lanzarotte island, La Sartiglia carnival in Ortizano and others.
