New Year on Mallorca is celebrated with fiesta

From the early morning in the city can be seen many celebratory ceremonial processions on their way to the Cathedral. Festa de l'Estendard is a Christian holiday dedicated to the liberation of Mallorca from the Moors. It was on December 31, 1229, when during the Reconquista King James I the Conqueror of Aragon liberated Mallorca from Muslims.
During the celebration of the Festa de l'Estendard in the city is held a large number of street theater productions telling about the events of those times, musical performances and ethnic groups, but the heart of the holiday is the Cathedral of Palma de Mallorca La Seu, where is held a special Mass, and the square in front of it. And it's not a coincidence, because the first stone of the Cathedral was installed on the site of a former Arab mosque on December 31, 1230 on the anniversary of the victory of James I. Its construction was completed only in 1601. Now it is one of the majestic cathedrals of Spain with 121 meters in length, 55 meters in wide and 44 meters in height. Thanks to its many large windows the cathedral of Palma is considered as the lightest gothic cathedral in the Mediterranean. Its restoration involved the great architect Antonio Gaudi.
In the evening, when the solemn mass is completed, the Christian holiday smoothly turns into the secular - the New Year in Majorca.

Britain ask tourists to stay
VisitEngland national tourism agency decided to start the large-scale advertising campaign to promote holidays in the UK.
