In Italy in the city of Pompeii in the Campania province at the foot of the Mount Vesuvius on Saturday, March 21, 2010 will open its doors an unusual snack bar - Termopolium. Termopolium Bar is one of the oldest public houses in Italy. Its age is more than 2000 years.

For a long time, a unique architectural feature of Pompeii was closed to the visitors. Thus, the city tried to preserve the monument from destruction and environmental impact. Reopening of Termopolium to the visitors will be timed to the coming Festa di Primavera Spring Festival in Pompeii.

Anyway, in 2010 it is decided to open Termopolium for the visitors only for 45 minutes and not for everybody. The organizers of the Spring Festival in Pompeii during the special campaign will determine the 300 lucky ones who will have the opportunity to participate in a tour of the famous monument.

Termopolium in Pompeii is a kind of prototype of the modern fast foods. In ancient Rome termopoliums were the shops where were served ready meals. In the Roman Empire such facilities have been popular especially among the poor, who could not afford their own kitchen.

At the same time the unique look of Termopolium in Pompeii makes us envy Roman beggars, who could eat in the near its unique frescoes. In particular, in the lunchroom located in Pompeii preserved one of them: "The Abduction of Europa by Zeus in the form of a bull."

Termopolium in Pompeii is one of the best preserved ancient Roman public houses of this type. Another similar eatery in equally good condition today is located in the Herculaneum architectural reserve near the town of Herculaneum in the province of Naples.

For those who are planning a tour to Italy during Festa di Primavera datscha-booking.com offers to book villas in Italy online both in Pompeii and in the surrounding cities, including Naples.
